King Saud University (KSU) undertakes a leading role in the education of persons with special educational needs, and is keen on providing an opportunity for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals to enroll in KSU through Qualifying Year Program, which is the first of its kind in all of the Arab World.

More than three years ago, work began through the formation of several specialized committees related to deaf and hard-of-hearing education, for example; Scientific Committee, Curriculum Committee, Supportive Services Committee etc.. Those efforts resulted in the beginning of the enrollment in the Qualifying Year Program for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students at KSU, in the academic year 2011/2012 A.D (1432/1433 AH). The admitted students were selected based on some criteria and conditions set by the Scientific Committee.
